Forget Me is a young adult (YA) novel recommended for kids ages 12 and up. It was written by K. A. Harrington, a pen name for author Kim Harrington. It was published on August 7, 2014 by G. P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young Readers.

Kim Harrington is the author of several books for teen audiences including Clarity, Perception, The Dead and Buried, and Forget Me. Her books for kids include the Sleuth or Dare and Gamer Squad Series. Her first book, Clarity, was a 2012 ALA Quick Pick for Reluctant Readers and received a starred review from Publisher’s Weekly. Harrington lives in Massachusetts with her husband and son. She loves the smell of coffee but hates the taste and never eats seafood. When not writing, she can usually be found reading or watching her favorite television show.

Forget Me is the story of a young girl named Morgan who lives in a small and failing industrial east coast town called River’s End, located in central Massachusetts. Her boyfriend, Flynn, was killed three months ago in a hit-and-run when a black SUV appeared out of nowhere, killing Flynn before speeding off. Flynn had broken up with Morgan just prior to his death. Morgan is battling intense feelings of guilt and grief over Flynn’s death though they had only been together for a couple of months. After he died, his parents immediately claimed his body and made plans for his funeral service and burial. Morgan was not invited by his family.

After several months of grieving with no constructive outlet, Morgan’s best friend Toni convinces her to upload a photo of Flynn to a popular website called FriendShare as a final tribute. However, the site’s facial recognition software tags Flynn as a boy named Evan Murphy. Morgan is shocked to see that Flynn and Evan look exactly alike. This event triggers a tangled chain of events regarding Flynn’s life, the town where Morgan lives, and even her parents’ strange behavior. The reader is presented with the pieces to a puzzle, but the pieces do not appear capable of fitting together. Flynn was a brooding and very private boy. The more Morgan digs into his past, the more mysterious he becomes.

Now, Morgan and Toni are on a mission to find out what happened to Flynn. Morgan’s parents are another piece of the puzzle in need of solving. Both her parents recently lost their jobs with the closing of their town’s main industry source, Stell Pharmaceuticals. There were a series of fatal heart attacks linked to one of their products. Stell’s closing brought down other businesses along with it. Her small town, where everyone knows everybody, is struggling with the recent turn of events. Morgan knows that her parents are stressed but they are acting strangely around Flynn’s death, which confuses Morgan. They whisper behind closed doors and stop speaking whenever she enters the room. Morgan realizes that she cannot rely on her parents for support with her investigation.

Morgan meets Evan at a party. The two have a mutual attraction to one another and even attempt a double-date. Though Morgan has romantic feelings towards Evan, she decides to keep their relationship platonic, at least until she understand what happened to Flynn. She can see the stark differences in their personalities. Evan is kinder and seems to genuinely like Morgan. Evan discloses that someone anonymously sent him a photo of Morgan, warning him to stay away from her. Now Evan teams up with Morgan and Toni to find answers.

Forget Me is an evenly paced, full-of-suspense novel written in past tense. Its many plot twists will keep the reader guessing throughout the novel up until the very end. Readers will apply the same tenacity to finishing the book because they will want to know what happened to Flynn, whether or not he is still alive, and why he and Evan look alike. They will also want to know how Morgan’s parents factor into this mystery. Morgan is a tenacious and determined protagonist who drives the plot forward with her refusal to give up no matter how scary or confusing things get. Forget Me is chock full of suspense with a big plot twist that is designed to throw the reader for a loop. Full of secrets and lies, Morgan sifts through them all to solve a dangerous mystery.
